AKG K601 Headphones Review For The iPad

AKG K601 Headphones
So you've got your shiny new iPad and you're wondering what headphones to get for it. Let's face it no ones going to stick with the little white plastic ones that Apple usually provides right? If you really want to go nuts and go for something top of the range why not try the AKG K601 headphones. Now these are not your basic offerings so if you're buying them just to listen to music or watch your favorite episode of Family Guy you might be wasting your time. If you're planning to use your iPad for any kind of music production then I would definitely check out the quality on offer from the AKG 601 headphones. Don't let the price put you off however as it might just turn out to be a terrific investment for you.
AKG K 601 Ear Pads
AKG K 601 Headphones Review
The distortion levels of these headphones is minimal due to the neodymium manget system which offers such a high level of performance. You literally won't believe your ears. The comfort level is also exceptional thanks to the genuine leather headband. It's adjustable to fit your needs and suit however you like to wear your headphones. The great feature I like is with the ear pads which are washable and replaceable. I've had a few pairs of headphones over the years and in some cases I've had to send the whole unit away so that the ear pads can be refitted. Not a worry with the AKG K601's! AKG themselves state that the K 601 are premium reference headphones for anyone who appreciates true high-end equipment. Who of you out there don't?
Good and Bad Points of AKG K601's
So what's the downside to these wonderful headphones? It has to be the cost. They can be quite pricey even though they have been on the market a few years. If you plan to buy them check out ebay first and see if you can pick up a good pair second hand. Remember you can replace the ear pads if you're worried about hygiene and this of course so much more cost effective than buying a whole new set of headphones. The other downside is that they are quite power hungry headphones so you might not get the ideal volume if you're using it with your iPod. The iPad might do a little better with power. I wouldn't let this put you off however as the crispness of sound more than makes up for it. You won't want the volume up to loud with this level of clarity, definitely not good for the ears!
Buy AKG K601 Headphones
In conclusion, although quite expensive I'd recommend the AKG K601 headphones for various types of use including for the iPad. I would especially recommend if you plan to make music on your iPad or do any production work in your home studio. The level of sound is excellent and the comfort is also superb.
